Tips On Shopping For Adjustable Beds

by Home And Garden Experts

We have all seen the commercial for a certain brand of adjustable beds on TV. What they don’t tell you is that their adjustable bed is made by the same manufacturer that makes most adjustable bed foundations for most brands on the market. This is something to think about when you do your shopping for a bed. When you’re looking at various beds keep in mind you’re shipping mainly for the mattress and not the adjustable part of the bed itself. It is a common mistake to think that the adjustable frame is what you’re looking for. The mattress is what you sleep on and modern adjustable foundations work with most of the most popular mattress types available today.

When shopping for your bed you are going to want to know a few things before hand. The majority of what you will find are electric adjustable beds. They will have a few basic features that will be the same from model to model, adjustable head and leg areas. The differences you will find, and will want to decide upon is if you want heating and massage functions. While there are few differences other than what is mentioned above, you do have one other important thing you need to research and decide on, the durability of the foundation. There are a few basic levels of durability when it comes to the motors in the bed. Your weight is going to be a factor in determining what type of foundation to buy. While there are many different designs they fall into two basic categories, regular adjustable bed or a split adjustable bed. The normal adjustable foundation adjusts the whole bed at once while a split model allows each person to adjust their side of the bed to their liking. For heavier people you are going to want to look at a split model as the weight limits for a regular model tend to top out at 600 pounds for queen and king sizes.

When it comes to mattress types all popular types are useable on an adjustable frame. The cheaper adjustable bed models will come with standard coil mattresses or inexpensive foam type mattresses. The drawbacks to these are they breakdown easily when it comes to cheap foam and will need replacing in a few years. The problems with coil mattresses are well known unless you consistently flip your mattress every week or so and stay away from sleeping on the edges. If this is not down they will need replacing in 5 to 10 years and indentations will form in the bed causing discomfort at night. Memory foam and air mattresses are also usable on an adjustable bed. The benefits of both are well known. Memory foam conforms to any body type or sleep position, does not break down like a spring mattress, and requires little to no flipping to keep it in good condition. Air mattresses allow for adjustable firmness levels for each person. However if you purchase a split adjustable bed this desirable feature is rendered useless and thus an air mattress is best used for a regular single mattress adjustable bed. Most adjustable bed prices are tied to the mattress type that comes with the bed.  Keep this in mind when you’re doing your research to make sure you get the best deal possible on the adjustable bed and mattress type you want.

Shopping for adjustable beds should be a fun and painless experience. Just keep the above tips and knowledge on hand when you do your shopping and come back home with the best bed to fit your needs and lifestyle.
