Before the introduction of solar window shades, a shaded room tended to be a darkened room. When the person in a room closed the shades on the room’s windows, then only a bare hint of light could enter the room. Then the world discovered solar screens. That discovery has led to a reversal of the expected chain of events, following the shading of any window.

Solar mesh window shades have been constructed from a synthetic fiber. The shade manufacturer has woven the fiber’s threads into a mesh screen. By using that technique, the manufacturer can give each shade a particular level of opaqueness. A shade with a predetermined opaqueness has been designed for use on a particular type of window.

Solar shades with a high degree of opaqueness or openness let in a fair amount of light. Such shades belong on a window with a view. When a homeowner wants to have more control over the amount of light coming through a window, then that homeowner needs to purchase solar shades with a low degree of openness.

Specially designed, exterior solar window shades serve a dual function. They reduce the amount of heat from the sun that can manage to warm the window glass. They also prevent harmful UV rays from penetrating that same glass, and entering the safe and secure living quarters.

The mesh shades eliminate a substantial amount of the suns’ glare, and they increase the energy efficiency achieved within the home. In a home equipped with solar control window shades, the occupants can enjoy openness to the exterior, without having to deal with excessive glare.

Properly shaded windows can solve the problems that have long plagued hostesses who have tried holding daytime events within the home. Guests do not want to sit in a darkened room. Similarly, guests seldom want to feel the sun’s heat beating down on them while they are inside. Following installation of the newest type of window shades, then almost any room can seem as comfortable as a screened porch on a summer’s day.

The mesh shades act like a screen. They can protect a room’s occupants from the sun. At the same time, the mesh provides the occupants with an excellent view of the surrounding fauna and flora. When the same room is lighted at night, the solar screens offer the room’s occupants an added amount of privacy.

The special features of the solar window screens can create problems for a retailer. Where does such an item belong in retail store? Should it be placed in the same section as the traditional shades, or should it sit next to the outdoor equipment? Perhaps the response of the customers should guide the retailer that chooses to carry solar screens.

Retailers would then need to determine whether customers focused more on the light covering aspects of the solar window shades or on their ability to mimic a screen mesh. Only after making that determination would a retailer feel confident about the placement of the see through shades.
